Digital Devon: Putting Skills at the Heart of the Conversation

The Greater Devon Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) was delighted to be part of Digital Devon,

Devon Chamber of Commerce‘s ground-breaking event was held at the Riviera International Centre in Torbay – and what a day it was for conversations that matter.

From the moment the doors opened, it was clear that Devon’s business and education communities are ready to engage seriously with the opportunities – and challenges – that the digital economy presents. For the LSIP, there was no better place to be.

PJ Davolls from the Greater Devon LSIP team was joined on the stand by Nigel Fenn MBE, co-founder of NEon Solution and LSIP Implementation Partner, alongside Ronnie Carter – and together they kept the conversations flowing throughout the day.

The stand became a hub for exactly the kind of dialogue the LSIP exists to encourage: open, honest discussions about what skills development in Devon can look like, what businesses need from their workforce, and how education and training providers can respond.

Attendees stopped to share their experiences, raise questions, and explore what the future of skills might hold for their sector and their organisation.

The digital economy is reshaping almost every sector in Devon – from hospitality and retail to advanced manufacturing, health and professional services. The skills that businesses need are evolving rapidly, and the pace of change shows no sign of slowing.

Digital Devon brought together employers, educators, tech innovators and policymakers under one roof, creating space for the cross-sector conversations that are so essential to getting skills provision right. For the LSIP, being present at an event of this scale and ambition is an opportunity not just to share what we know, but to listen – to hear directly from Devon businesses about the skills challenges they are facing and what support would make the biggest difference.

Building a Skills System Fit for the Future

The Greater Devon LSIP is committed to ensuring that Devon’s skills and training landscape keeps pace with the demands of a changing economy. That means working closely with employers to understand their needs, engaging with training providers to shape relevant and responsive provision, and championing a joined-up approach to skills development across the region.

Conversations like those held at Digital Devon are a vital part of that process. Every exchange at the stand – whether a quick chat or a more in-depth discussion – feeds into a broader picture of what Devon’s workforce needs to thrive.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by for a conversation, and to Devon Chamber of Commerce for delivering such an inspiring event.
