Government launches new Get Britain Working White Paper

The Government has launched the much-anticipated Get Britain Working White Paper, setting out a transformative plan to address economic inactivity, reduce unemployment, and support young people while integrating employment support, health services, and skills development.

Here is a summary of the key points that matter most:

Ambitious Employment Target: Aiming for an 80% employment rate across the UK, with strategies designed to bring people into sustainable jobs.

Revamping Jobcentres: Jobcentres will transition into a National Jobs and Careers Service, emphasising skills improvement and career progression opportunities.

Youth Opportunities Guaranteed: With a focus on ensuring every young person has access to education, training, apprenticeships, or employment. This includes £40m in new funding to enhance growth opportunities and support through the skills levy.

Better Mental Health Support: Improved capacity to reduce waiting lists, tackling a key driver of inactivity in the workforce.

Connect to Work: Launching a supported employment programme to help individuals into meaningful roles and keep them there.

Local Growth Alignment: Regions outside the 16 trailblazers will receive funding to craft their own Get Britain Working Plans, tailored to local growth priorities.

£240m Investment: This funding will help deliver these plans, aiming to create a resilient and dynamic workforce across the country.

As the designated ERB delivering LSIP, we are thrilled to see the central role Local Skills Improvement Plans will play in these initiatives, ensuring skills systems are responsive to your business needs.

This commitment aligns perfectly with our collaborative work with businesses and regional partners.
We’re ready to support our network in making the most of these opportunities – let’s build a stronger future together!
